Thanksgiving came early this year, so the weather hadn't yet chilled when the festive season began. A couple of cool days last week, however, have begun to put me in the mood for celebrating, and our area offers some spectacular ways to mingle among others who share in the spirit of the season.
No matter where you are in the Northeast Florida area, there's sure to be an event near you. Just a few of the happenings include:
Amelia Island's 4th Annual Dickens on Centre Festival, held in historic downtown Fernandina Beach, is a Victorian celebration of Christmas running December 7 through 9. The festival is free to the public. If you'd like something a bit more spirited, adults over 21-years of age can enjoy Dickens After Dark and take a winding ghost tour through the city.
7th Annual ZOOLights at the Jacksonville Zoo begins December 7th and runs periodically through January 5th. Stroll through the zoo while enjoying thousands of lights, moving sculptures, and holiday music. Sprinkled throughout the ZOOLights celebration are even more fun and exciting events, including a tacky sweater night, a lighted stroll, and a pajama night
Festival of Lights 5k in San Marco is always a fun event. Whether you're a runner, walker, or just someone who wants to stroll through the beautiful San Marco Square, there's something for everyone: A luminaria, trains rides for the kids, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and lots of food and fun. This year's event will be held December 8.
Also on December 8th, Whiteys Fish Camp in Middleburg will host their 16th Annual Lighted Boat Parade. Beginning at 6:30 pm, in addition to the parade itself, there will be music and a silent auction. All proceeds go to the Safe Animal Shelter.
Riverside Avondale Luminaria will be held December 23rd and is always a spectacular event. The community is lovely on any given day yet there's a certain magic created on this day, with neighbors greeting neighbors, families cruising the streets on their bicycles, and a parade of cars and hay-wagons cruising along, tossing candy to passersby.
And, of course, who could forget St Augustine's Nights of Lights Festival? The festival runs through February 3rd, so even if the hustle and bustle of the season leaves you in a time crunch, you can still make time to visit (and you'll be glad you did). St Augustine, already one of the most beautiful downtown areas you can imagine, transforms into a glorious spectacle of lights. Pro tip: Traffic can be quite congested, so if you prefer to drive, prepare to be patient. Pack your snacks and some hot cocoa and kick back and enjoy the lights all the more while cruising at a leisurely pace. A better idea: Drive in early and find a great parking place, or use a rideshare, then take in dinner before strolling through town.
No matter what your preference, there's a holiday festival for you. Decorate the stroller, light up the bicycles, don your favorite stocking hat and get to know a little better this wonderful northeast corner of Florida.
To each and every one of you, I wish the very best of Blessings this holiday season, and a glorious New Year.

"Living out of Jacksonville and putting our home in Neptune Beach on the market was a real concern to us. Eric was everything other reviewers have said, and I think even more. The effort put into Open Houses, showings, feedback to us and mostly being honest in his advice I have to say was above and beyond the call of duty. We have sold many homes over the years and say without a doubt would call upon Eric again to either buy or sell a home."
